PHACO HANDPIECE REPAIR
As soon as we receive the Phaco hand-piece, our technicians begin the diagnosis by completely disassembling the instrument, including the transducer. All connectors, cables, piezoelectric ceramics, electrodes and seals are discarded, to be replaced with fresh components. Next, we inspect and ultrasonically clean the shell housing and remaining transducer components. Then we reassemble the transducer, mate it with a new connector or cable, and test it. Finally, the cable/transducer assembly is fit into the shell housing with all new seals. Before shipping your Phaco hand-piece back to you, we test it one final time and it is autoclaved.

At The Surgical Equipment People, we won’t rest until your hand-piece is in optimal working condition. That’s why we go a step further by completing the following three protective measures on every hand-piece repair:

  • Wire Protection The most vulnerable point of the Phaco handpiece wire is where the cord attaches to the connector or the shell -- this area is strained as the user twists or turns the handpiece during a procedure. The Surgical Equipment People devised a molded strain reliever to provide protection at the connection by distributing the stress along the cord. We apply this design to all handpiece wires*. *(Due to handpiece design, the strain relief cannot be utilized on Storz and Chiron handpieces.)
  • Protection from Moisture Intrusion Phaco handpieces are sealed with an epoxy material at the area where the cord connects to the handpiece. After repeated sterilization, the epoxy beaks down and becomes a primary point for harmful moisture intrusion. The Surgical Equipment People use a potting material that is designed to create a firmer, tighter seal that resists breakdown and prolongs the life of the handpiece.
  • Kevlar Insulation (Protects Wire) A common cause of handpiece failure is wire damage, which is due to a lack of adequate wire protection. The Surgical Equipment People add a layer of Kevlar insulation between both the inner wire and an outer silicone sheathing to strengthen and protect the wire. Kevlar -- the same material used in bullet proof vests -- runs throughout the length of the cord.

The Surgical Equipment People is ISO 9001 certified. ISO 9001 certification is a quality control certification. It is set by international standards. This insures the proper quality repair of every phaco handpiece. Our phaco handpiece service is ISO 9001 certified by TUV ESSEN. All of our handpieces must pass our complete performance and quality testing before release to the customer.
